[00:00:00] Speaker A: WVUAFM Tuscaloosa. And welcome back to Student Section MLB here on this Monday, November 11th. I'm your host, Luke Torrey, joined by Tyler Harrison, Luke Anderson and Davis Cornell. And we are two weeks removed from the end of the extremely sad World Series. Now moving on to free agency and some award predictions. The ones that aren't obviously givens like the two mvp, four biggest ones, the two Cy Young Awards. We can talk. Let's just jump into. Obviously AL MVP finalists Judge Soto and Bobby Witt was the last one. No brainer here. Obviously it's Aaron. Judge Soto and Witt would have won. [00:00:54] Speaker B: An MVP in any other. Yeah, like that'd be the greatest MVP race between those two. [00:00:59] Speaker A: Yeah, seriously. [00:01:00] Speaker C: I think Bobby Wood will get like one first place vote though. [00:01:02] Speaker A: No, it's going to be unanimous. [00:01:05] Speaker B: I think the top four awards are all going to be unanimous. There's two Triple Crown winners and then two historic seasons. [00:01:10] Speaker A: Absolutely historic. Going with that. Going over to the nl, obviously, Ohtani Lindor and Katel Marte was the last one. [00:01:19] Speaker B: I love Katel Marte. [00:01:20] Speaker A: Great all around player. Love that guy. [00:01:23] Speaker B: Had the most defensive run saved this season too, in any player. He should win the Platinum Glove. I don't think he would. [00:01:29] Speaker A: He should win the mvp. [00:01:30] Speaker B: No, he didn't play enough games. Never mind. [00:01:33] Speaker A: Yeah. No, but obviously another no brainer. Ohtani's winning that one. Cy Young pretty much a no brainer on both sides. It's Sale and Scubal. Rookie of the year's closer race. The al. It's between two Yankees. It's going to be Heal or Austin Wells. Colton Couser is in there too as the last. The last rookie that received the honor for that. [00:02:01] Speaker B: Mason Miller wasn't a finalist. [00:02:02] Speaker A: He was not. Oh, it was Luis Heal, Austin Wells and Colton Cousins. [00:02:08] Speaker B: Miller should at least be a finalist for the AL Reliever of the Year even though he's. That's going to be unanimous too. [00:02:14] Speaker A: Right. And then the rookie of the year on the NL side was Skaines and Merrill. Merrill. That's really the race. But let's see. Let me pull it up here. [00:02:26] Speaker B: I'm trying to think of good NL rookies other than. Oh, Jackson. Cheerio. Yeah, cheerio Jackson. [00:02:34] Speaker A: Cheerio. Where we had here. [00:02:37] Speaker B: I think that's a. I think that's a fair third finalist. Davis. Okay. [00:02:41] Speaker A: Yeah, it's true. It's Cheerio. Merrill and Paul Skeens. [00:02:46] Speaker B: Yeah. Who do they. [00:02:48] Speaker A: It's gonna be skiing, but it definitely should be. [00:02:51] Speaker C: I think it will be. [00:02:51] Speaker B: I think of everything has to be like the two Rookie of the Years aren't going to be unanimous. AL Reliever of the year is going to be unanimous and it's class A NL Reliever of the year is Iglesias and Helsley. Helsley has the most saves. I think he's going to win it. But Iglesias deserves votes. NL Rookie of the Year could be between one to two votes. [00:03:13] Speaker A: It's going to be a close one, but I would probably give it to Skeens. [00:03:17] Speaker B: It's very hard to compare pitchers and batters. That's why you rarely see pitchers win MVP unless it is a historical season like Verlander and Kershaw. [00:03:25] Speaker A: Right. [00:03:26] Speaker C: But also SK rookie campaign was historic. I mean he was breaking records, tying or like coming close to Doc Gooden's records and breaking a lot of records for innings pitched. I mean like hits, records, strikeout records, all like that stuff for his first year. And he was drafted last year too, which is insane to think about too. He spent no time in the minor leagues. [00:03:48] Speaker A: Yeah. I think he flew through the like faster than anyone's ever. [00:03:52] Speaker B: And you're six, five throwing 101. Yeah. To 18 year olds it's gonna. You can always like I saw a couple things that people were saying. Oh, he's just doing that against people who aren't MLB talent and I'm not hearing anything being said from them anymore. [00:04:06] Speaker C: Right. [00:04:06] Speaker B: If he does all of that next season, like we'll do our predictions weeks in a few weeks, probably after Christmas break of where we think awards are going to be. I think I'm going to call the NL Cy Young two years in a row. [00:04:19] Speaker A: Yeah. I think we might be able to call the NL Cy Young for the next five years. [00:04:25] Speaker B: I don't know, man. [00:04:26] Speaker A: Until he becomes a Yankee and y'all. [00:04:30] Speaker B: Get swept in their series again. [00:04:32] Speaker C: That is crazy. Until he becomes a Yankee. [00:04:35] Speaker A: It's. It's destiny, bro. It's destiny. Moving on though, from the the Rookie of the Year awards, we'll talk Manager of the Year. Carlos Mendoza got honors. [00:04:46] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:47] Speaker A: Pat Murphy for the brewers and Mike Schilt of the Padres for the nl. [00:04:52] Speaker B: Okay. Do they take into account postseason for those awards? [00:04:55] Speaker A: I do not think so. [00:04:56] Speaker C: I don't think they're supposed to, but I think they will take reaching the postseason. [00:05:01] Speaker A: I will say almost just dropped my phone with Carlos Mendoza. I mean the Mets started. Oh and five. I think the turnaround should win 11 games right under.500 at some point. And then they went 65 and 38 to step into the postseason. [00:05:21] Speaker B: Goodness gracious. [00:05:22] Speaker A: I think he. I mean, 41 comeback wins, 28 and 16 in one run games. [00:05:27] Speaker B: I think that. I think he should win it for the nl for AL finalists. Stephen votes one of them. [00:05:33] Speaker A: Vote is one of them should win it. AJ Hinch is the other. [00:05:36] Speaker B: Okay. [00:05:37] Speaker A: And then Matt Quattro, the Royals coach. [00:05:42] Speaker B: Okay. That the Royals did have a really good turnaround. [00:05:46] Speaker A: Yeah. So, I mean, because didn't the Royals. [00:05:49] Speaker B: Go from losing 100 games last season to being the. They weren't the one or two seed. They were the four seed. [00:05:56] Speaker A: I think it's gonna go to Stephen vote. [00:05:59] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:59] Speaker A: But I think it should be closer with. Honestly, all three of the. It could be any of them. I mean, those three. All three of those teams, you'd expect the Guardians to be at the top of that division, but not perform the way that they did. And the way that he coached, I mean, second best record in the al. I bet you didn't believe that the Guardians were going to have that. [00:06:19] Speaker B: Yeah, no, I thought. I thought J Rim would have a good season. Klosse would do well and maybe the. [00:06:25] Speaker A: Stephen Kwan would just hit like 380. [00:06:27] Speaker B: Yeah, Stephen Kwan would be a batting average and Gold Glove winner. The Naylor brothers may perform every once in a while. [00:06:34] Speaker A: Nah, nah, nah. [00:06:37] Speaker B: You're holding the grass. [00:06:38] Speaker A: I'm a big Naylor hater. You're holding specifically Josh Naylor. Bo Naylor haven't really developed a hate for him because he hasn't really done anything. Josh Naylor. [00:06:48] Speaker B: Well, you know when the Yankees inevitably play an AL Central team and look good and then get to the World Series and don't do anything with it next season, then you will have a hate for Bo Naylor. [00:06:58] Speaker A: Yeah, no, I don't want that to happen again. [00:07:01] Speaker B: You know, you haven't beat a non. [00:07:03] Speaker A: Yes, I know, I know, I know. [00:07:05] Speaker B: Okay. I'm just letting you know. [00:07:07] Speaker A: Yes. [00:07:07] Speaker B: You're the Yankees fan. [00:07:09] Speaker A: We have not beat an AL team. Other than. [00:07:12] Speaker B: You can make fun of my entire team being injured. I mean. [00:07:15] Speaker A: No, I'm not going to do that because it's just going to come back to me and then all my team will just be injured. I've dealt with injuries. Karma is real. [00:07:25] Speaker B: Clay Holmes will perform for you next year. [00:07:27] Speaker A: Clay Holmes isn't even on. [00:07:28] Speaker C: That's a crazy thing to say. [00:07:29] Speaker A: He's a free agent. [00:07:31] Speaker B: Well, he's not. [00:07:32] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, that's right. [00:07:33] Speaker B: Yeah. He's gonna perform great for the job. [00:07:34] Speaker A: I wouldn't see us. I could See us bringing him back, just not as a closer. [00:07:40] Speaker D: Please, no more Clay home. [00:07:41] Speaker A: He can be. He's fine in the seventh inning. [00:07:43] Speaker B: Give him a starter proof position. [00:07:44] Speaker A: Never, never let him sniff the field with a runner on base. And never let him sniff the field later than the seventh inning and he can come back. [00:07:51] Speaker B: Don't let him face people with good nicknames. Big Christmas. [00:07:56] Speaker A: That wasn't him. That was Luke Weaver. [00:08:00] Speaker C: Yeah, in the was in the playoffs. [00:08:02] Speaker A: He left a change up on a silver platter. David Fry had to walk off Christmas took it to Yucatan. [00:08:10] Speaker B: The Yucatan. [00:08:11] Speaker A: Wow. [00:08:13] Speaker B: Okay. [00:08:13] Speaker A: Smell that. Long way I can. Moving on from the managerial awards. What else do we got? [00:08:25] Speaker C: For what it's worth, I think Stephen Vote is going to win that award. [00:08:28] Speaker A: Yeah, he's got. [00:08:28] Speaker C: I think that. [00:08:29] Speaker A: I feel like that's. Again, I feel like every award besides the rookie of the Year. [00:08:33] Speaker C: That's what I was going to say. Part of it for me is like I feel like I give a lot of I would give if I was a voter at least a lot of credit to first year managers. Stephen Vote. I mean to be fair, the Guardians do have a, a solid roster. That's part of it too is playing up to or exceeding expectations with your roster. And the Guardians do have a good roster. But like Luke said, I mean second seed in the AL was not something that they were looking at. 90 wins. I didn't see them winning 90 games. Especially with vote as a first year manager. I mean he just retired from playing and then he manages the Guardians to a division championship. [00:09:06] Speaker A: Was like backup catcher for the Guardians. [00:09:10] Speaker C: And that's like my reasoning with Mendoza too. I definitely think that the, whoever it is from the brewers could win because he's also a first year guy. I mean they just gave up Craig Council and everyone thought that they were going to win 70 games because they didn't have Craig Council anymore. And then they still win the division easy. So I think that there's definitely an argument there for Pat Murphy. Yeah, for Murphy. But I think that, I mean Mendoza is obviously a first year manager too. And I think that especially with the fact that the Mets started so poorly and then picked it up and made the playoffs and won so many games after June, I think that is all on the manager. So I mean, and I'm a little biased, so I think Mendoza should win it. But I think in the AL it should be easy. [00:09:51] Speaker D: Stephen Votto, Mike Schultz, also first year manager. I feel like he deserves a little more credit. Yeah, but the Padres were literally 50 and 50 for their first hundred games. [00:09:59] Speaker B: Padres were the hottest team going into the playoffs besides the Mets. [00:10:02] Speaker A: That is true. [00:10:03] Speaker D: And that's a team that traded Juan Soto and lost Blake Snell in free agency and got better. [00:10:09] Speaker B: That was still. I still think that's an even trade. Michael King. [00:10:12] Speaker A: Michael King is a dog. Who certified. Kyle Higashioka gave them. [00:10:17] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. [00:10:18] Speaker A: Unbelievable amount of power in the. In the postseason. [00:10:20] Speaker B: Oh, I know. [00:10:21] Speaker A: Just went up. You were there and then you weren't. [00:10:25] Speaker B: All right. [00:10:26] Speaker C: If there was, like, a GM of the year award, I would give it to the GM of the Padres. The moves they made at the deadline and what they were able to do, especially getting back what they did in the Soto trade and making moves in the off season and going aggressive at the deadline. I mean, yeah, the Dodgers do sign Ohtani and you win the award if that was the case, but. [00:10:46] Speaker A: And the moves they made in the. In at the. [00:10:48] Speaker C: Give it to the Dodgers. [00:10:50] Speaker A: Very impactful, all of them. [00:10:52] Speaker C: And Tommy Edmond won NLCS mvp and he got traded there. [00:10:56] Speaker B: I mean, I didn't. I did not think that the. My buddy who's a Dodgers fan, he. Man, I hated what he did because he was thanking me. And my other buddy who's a Cardinals fan. Thank you for Freddie Freeman and Tommy Edmond. And I blocked him for a day. [00:11:10] Speaker A: I would have blocked him for a lot longer than a day. [00:11:12] Speaker B: Well, I'm not a Yankees fan. I feel like that'd be a much harder shot from you. [00:11:16] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:11:17] Speaker B: Are you okay? [00:11:18] Speaker A: No. [00:11:19] Speaker B: Okay. [00:11:23] Speaker A: But moving on, we. What do you guys think? Did you guys see the power rankings that came out by MLB the very early. Way too soon power rankings. [00:11:36] Speaker B: That was the one where the Yankees were, like, ninth. [00:11:38] Speaker A: No, Yankees were fifth. [00:11:40] Speaker B: Okay. But I think I saw him. [00:11:42] Speaker A: Braves were at three. [00:11:44] Speaker B: If we have a healthy team, we're the only one that can compete with the Dodgers. Well, Padres, but, like, you get. [00:11:50] Speaker A: Yeah. So the Baltimore Orioles were, I guess. Oh. Guardians were 10, brewers were 9, Astros 8, Mets 7, Orioles 6, Yankees 5. Padres 4. Braves 3. Phillies 2, Dodgers 1. [00:12:09] Speaker B: I think the very obvious thing here that we can all agree on is that if the Orioles lose Corbin Burns, they're going to go down to 14th in the power rankings. That's so obvious. [00:12:17] Speaker A: They're pitch. They. They are going to get pitching back. [00:12:20] Speaker C: With, like, with injury. [00:12:22] Speaker A: Healthy. But obviously that is a scion. Yes, obviously. But their lineup is still going to. I think I was very shocked by the Orioles, like, struggles. [00:12:32] Speaker B: Gunnar Henderson. Oh, I didn't even think about him for, like, eight. He had to have been full time. [00:12:39] Speaker C: He'll finish fourth in that. [00:12:40] Speaker B: Probably my fifth will be Brent Rooker. [00:12:43] Speaker A: Honestly. Yeah, I was shot. I mean, Adley Rutchman didn't have that. Great. [00:12:50] Speaker B: He's still a great defensive. [00:12:53] Speaker A: He was my al, like, mvp. Like, I gave a couple names, but besides Judge. Because Judge was just like free. But like, I was like, if Judge isn't gonna win it, I was like. I said Adley Rushman. I said Soto. And then I said another guy who I was surprised that didn't really compete that well was Julio Rodriguez. [00:13:14] Speaker C: Yeah, he stung. [00:13:16] Speaker B: I can't even remember who I said. [00:13:17] Speaker C: I said Bobby Witch. [00:13:20] Speaker A: Credit there. [00:13:21] Speaker B: I'm blanking. I don't remember who I said. I think I said some obvious names. [00:13:24] Speaker A: Probably said Judge. [00:13:25] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, other than. I think we all said, yeah. [00:13:28] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:13:29] Speaker C: I mean, like you said, dude, J Rod just completely reflected the struggles of the whole team. [00:13:34] Speaker A: Because hit. [00:13:36] Speaker C: Because if he can't. If he can't hit, then no one on the team is hitting. [00:13:39] Speaker A: They were like a slightly above average hitting team. They would be the best team. [00:13:45] Speaker B: They were batting.216 as a team. If they're batting two, they're 50, 240. [00:13:50] Speaker A: Their pictures are. They're very good defensively. They're very good pitching wise. They just can't hit. [00:13:56] Speaker B: They only go off. [00:13:57] Speaker C: Only thing they need to sign like, Bregman or they need to go get Pete Alonso. Yeah, Pete Alonso would help them tremendously. [00:14:04] Speaker A: Yeah. Some sort of bat. [00:14:06] Speaker C: Oh, sort of bat. [00:14:07] Speaker B: Are any of their pitchers like free agents this year? Like, is. [00:14:11] Speaker A: No, they have Kirby for like. Yeah, a while. I think under arbitration, Kirby probably. I'd say either Kirby or Castillo probably. [00:14:20] Speaker C: Because it might be better than George Kirby, but I would disagree. [00:14:23] Speaker A: Just one two punch, though. I mean, Kirby's a. He's a Logan Gilbert. [00:14:28] Speaker C: Gilbert is amazing too. [00:14:30] Speaker A: I mean, they have unbelievably pitching. They are losing Devin Williams, who has been on and off this year. The Marine release. Oh, I for some reason thought we're still on the Brewers. No, not the Mayor, not. Not Devin Williams, but the rotation. [00:14:48] Speaker B: I didn't see that off season move. [00:14:49] Speaker C: Yeah, no, it could happen. [00:14:51] Speaker A: It could happen. [00:14:51] Speaker C: It could happen. [00:14:52] Speaker A: Imagine that. I just accidentally called that. [00:14:54] Speaker B: They. They don't need bitching. [00:14:57] Speaker A: We've established. Right, right, right. They don't. [00:14:59] Speaker C: I did not realize this because you. [00:15:01] Speaker A: Can never have too much pitching. [00:15:03] Speaker C: We brushed over this so quick. I didn't even realize Paul Skeens was a finalist for the Cy Young. [00:15:09] Speaker A: What? Did I not say that? [00:15:10] Speaker C: No, because we just said, oh, it'll be Chris Sale. [00:15:12] Speaker B: I thought. I thought it was sales Wheeler. [00:15:15] Speaker C: There's no way he loses rookie of the year if he's a finalist for the cyan. [00:15:19] Speaker A: He's got away. There's no way he loses both. [00:15:23] Speaker C: That'd be so funny. That's crazy. That is crazy. With the lack of innings pitch and he's. [00:15:29] Speaker A: He came up. [00:15:29] Speaker B: Oh. [00:15:30] Speaker A: If he was on the roster on opening day, could you imagine he would have won it. [00:15:34] Speaker C: He would have won the award. [00:15:37] Speaker A: He would have won the award. Yes. But I mean, could you, like, see what his season could have been? [00:15:44] Speaker C: He would have broken every record. [00:15:46] Speaker B: Can't we just look at his, like projected. [00:15:48] Speaker C: You could. Yeah. [00:15:49] Speaker A: You could. Yeah. [00:15:51] Speaker B: Hold on. [00:15:51] Speaker A: But he's just. [00:15:53] Speaker B: I want to find this out. [00:15:54] Speaker A: Oh, it's gonna be a great day. When he's in pinstripes. Yeah. [00:15:59] Speaker B: When he gives up four home. [00:16:00] Speaker A: All right, bro. All right. [00:16:05] Speaker C: Trying to predict everyone going to the. [00:16:07] Speaker A: I gotta speak it into existence. [00:16:08] Speaker C: He could keep his. [00:16:09] Speaker A: Happened with Cole. It happened with Jameson Tyone. It's. It's destiny. [00:16:14] Speaker B: Oh, wow. It's. [00:16:15] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:16:16] Speaker C: I was about to say, what other. [00:16:17] Speaker A: Good pitcher has come out of Pittsburgh? Exactly. [00:16:21] Speaker B: Hold on, let me think. [00:16:23] Speaker C: Rich Hill played there. Rich. [00:16:27] Speaker A: You can't say that one. Oh, yeah, the closer. [00:16:30] Speaker C: Domingo Herman. [00:16:33] Speaker A: Domingo. [00:16:34] Speaker B: Her mom. [00:16:34] Speaker A: It was like for Vasquez. [00:16:38] Speaker B: We don't mention him. We can't. [00:16:39] Speaker A: Right? That was. That is those. [00:16:41] Speaker B: I think his last name. [00:16:41] Speaker A: We can't mention Fernando Vasquez or something like Vasquez. Yeah, yeah. No, he's far not a good person. Did you guys see Wander? Franco got arrested again. Again? [00:16:52] Speaker B: No. [00:16:52] Speaker C: Really? [00:16:53] Speaker A: But. But this time at least on bond. You still waiting? I don't. Did you see what the charge was? [00:17:01] Speaker C: I just like that caught me completely off again. That. Yikes. [00:17:09] Speaker A: He will never sniff the Major league baseball. [00:17:12] Speaker B: I hope he never sniffs the outside of bars. [00:17:15] Speaker A: Yeah, no, he's buried under the jail, but. [00:17:18] Speaker C: And now Tampa just like stinks. [00:17:20] Speaker A: Yeah, he was that. I mean, what, they. [00:17:23] Speaker B: They lost a Rosarina too? [00:17:24] Speaker C: Yeah, they traded. [00:17:25] Speaker A: He's on the Mariners. Mariners. Which, by the way, he wins at bat of the year. Have you. I don't know if you guys saw his. He had won at bat. I forget who was pitching. [00:17:37] Speaker C: Is it the one where he stepped out of the box? [00:17:38] Speaker A: He stepped out of the box three straight times. It was three straight balls. And then on a.300 fastball. You just destroyed it. Hit an absolute bomb. [00:17:47] Speaker B: That's a great at bat. [00:17:49] Speaker A: Yeah. No. Randy Rosenran is another guy I hate. [00:17:53] Speaker B: Why can I not see? [00:17:54] Speaker A: Because he killed the Yankees when he was on the Rays. [00:17:56] Speaker C: But he's a cool celebration. [00:17:57] Speaker A: Yeah. The arms crossed. [00:18:00] Speaker C: I like that trade. When he got traded to Seattle and then he just didn't really do a whole lot. I actually played okay. But the team was like. [00:18:07] Speaker A: So that's what shows a lot about the brewers, about the Mariners, is that he was there three slash four hitter sometimes. And he had 211. [00:18:16] Speaker C: You're two. [00:18:17] Speaker A: Your three and four hitter can't hit. 211. Yeah. You can't expect to make be a playoff contender if. If that's the case. [00:18:27] Speaker B: I'm trying. Oh my gosh. Paul Skeens faced 514 people and they were batting under the Mendoza line against him. I don't. I can't see the projections. All I see is that. All I see is that. And let's get here. Where's his innings? All right. He started 23 games. He went 11 and three, which doesn't matter. He accumulated six WAR pitching without playing a full season. [00:18:53] Speaker A: How many games? [00:18:54] Speaker D: 23 stars, 23 starts. [00:18:56] Speaker C: Took a bunch of games in a no hit watch a bunch. [00:19:00] Speaker B: Oh. In 133 innings he had 170 strikeouts with only 32 walks. [00:19:09] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:19:10] Speaker C: These numbers are not real. Like these numbers, when you throw that. [00:19:12] Speaker A: Hard, you can just throw it in the zone. You're not gonna walk a lot of guys. [00:19:16] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:19:17] Speaker A: Because they can't hit it. [00:19:19] Speaker B: And a 196. He was. He had a 196 era. [00:19:23] Speaker A: Does it say is the era plus. [00:19:25] Speaker C: On there like two something? 220 something? Probably. [00:19:29] Speaker B: Wait a minute. I can just. Baseball. [00:19:30] Speaker C: I mean, I know, I know. Every time like we have this argument it sounds like we're like. We think Jackson Merrill is the worst player to ever touch credible. He had such a good season. [00:19:40] Speaker A: We're not discounting that at all. He is. But he's gonna be an incredible player for years to come. But Paul Skeens is an alien. Like actually he's not from this planet. [00:19:49] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:19:50] Speaker B: No. [00:19:50] Speaker C: 100%. [00:19:51] Speaker B: Here's his 162 game average. 16 and 4 with a. Yeah. 16 and 4 with 251 strikeouts and a 196 ERA. And a 214 ERA plus with a sub one whip. [00:20:11] Speaker A: Two 14 ERA plus and a sub one whip. [00:20:16] Speaker B: Yep. [00:20:18] Speaker A: That's not fair. [00:20:19] Speaker B: Allowing less earned runs than walks. [00:20:20] Speaker A: That's not fair. He's gonna be. How many years you think he'll play. [00:20:24] Speaker C: In the league until he's 40 at least. [00:20:27] Speaker B: How tall. So how tall is he? Good Lord. How old is he? [00:20:31] Speaker C: 22. Yeah. [00:20:32] Speaker B: Yeah, 22. [00:20:33] Speaker A: Very young pitchers get better as they get older, however, has shown us. [00:20:37] Speaker B: Yes, but Verlander wasn't coming out throwing a hundred. His V came with age. [00:20:42] Speaker A: Yeah. He. Which means fine one. [00:20:44] Speaker C: Yeah. It is gonna be a big thing. Is will get injured. Like, that'll be a huge. It's gonna be like thing. [00:20:50] Speaker A: I hope it's not. I hope. No disrespect. I hope he doesn't have a career like deGrom had where he literally is just the best pitcher in the league when he pitches but then gets hurt. [00:21:00] Speaker B: He may do that. He may do it on the Pirates next season. He's going to go. He's going to go 1 and 11 with a 12 era. [00:21:07] Speaker C: I mean, if deGrom just threw like 97 instead of a hundred, I mean, he still would have been insane. Yeah. He probably wouldn't have needed two Tommy John surgeries. And I mean, what's up with him? [00:21:20] Speaker A: Is he back next year? [00:21:22] Speaker B: I just thought about. [00:21:23] Speaker C: He did pitch a little bit this past season and I think he is not injured. Meaning, like he should start opening or like be available opening day, I think for next season. But it is sad to see. [00:21:36] Speaker A: Yeah, very. All right, we're gonna just hit head to a small break here. We'll be right back here on student section ML. This show is a sports production of WVUAFM 90.7, the Capstone, a division of student media at the University of Alabama. Support us by leaving a review rating or following us on X at WVUAFMSports. And welcome back to Student Section MLB. You right there, Tyler? [00:22:20] Speaker B: It was very loud. [00:22:21] Speaker A: Oh, all right. Hope it wasn't that loud for you listeners, but. All right, moving on. We. We were talking about the OR power rankings. [00:22:36] Speaker C: Oh, power rankings. [00:22:37] Speaker A: Right. Sorry. Third thing, even though my mind. All right. I'm still getting to you. Yeah. And I'm a Jets fan. Oh, yeah. [00:22:48] Speaker B: All right, now you picked that. [00:22:50] Speaker A: You. [00:22:50] Speaker B: You could have switched. You had so many options. [00:22:54] Speaker A: Not really so many options. I mean, I like the teams from my. From my state from. And I mean, being a Giants fan is not much better. [00:23:04] Speaker B: Bills. [00:23:05] Speaker A: I would never be a Bills fan. Ever. Ever. I hate the Bills. I bet he hates the Bills too. [00:23:12] Speaker B: He's a Dolphins fan. [00:23:13] Speaker A: I'm a Jets fan. What's your point? [00:23:16] Speaker B: I'm a Titans fan, so I don't. [00:23:18] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. One of our only wins was against you Guys, I was there. I went and watched Aaron Rodgers pretty much only good game he ever played. Talking about your playoff performance. Oh, want to talk about your playoff performance? You guys were gone before we all got hurt. [00:23:34] Speaker B: We would have won one of those games. [00:23:36] Speaker A: And Aaron Judge not even sure. [00:23:38] Speaker C: Not even true. [00:23:40] Speaker B: I hate y'all. [00:23:43] Speaker A: What goes around comes around, bro. [00:23:46] Speaker B: This is standards. [00:23:48] Speaker A: The Yankees are at five. Yeah. They should be lower because as it stands right now Juan Soto is not a member of the active team and we are not the fifth best team in the MLB without Juan Soto. Everything else looks good. Honestly, it's fair. [00:24:04] Speaker C: Do. [00:24:05] Speaker A: Would you guys change much to it or it's. [00:24:08] Speaker B: I'm trying to look at the list. Whenever it pops up. [00:24:10] Speaker A: I can wait. [00:24:12] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:24:12] Speaker C: Do you have the Dodgers one? [00:24:13] Speaker B: Completely agreed. Phillies too. They don't have any free agents leaving, do they? No, no. [00:24:19] Speaker A: But they were shopping Costello's and Stock. [00:24:22] Speaker B: I did see that. [00:24:22] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:24:23] Speaker C: They're just gonna sign Bregman or something and then trade for something. [00:24:27] Speaker A: Something beneficial. [00:24:28] Speaker B: Padres 3. I'm trying to think of anybody leaving or coming in House. I know. I don't know. House on Kim is a free agent. [00:24:35] Speaker A: He is a free agent. [00:24:36] Speaker C: I don't know everyone on this Yankees middle, infield defense. [00:24:41] Speaker A: Gleyber is probably gone. I would love Hasam Kim to be a Yankee. I could actually see that happening. [00:24:48] Speaker B: Orioles for the Orioles should be lower. They should be. [00:24:52] Speaker A: Especially with that Corbin Burns is not currently on the team. [00:24:55] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:24:55] Speaker B: Santander. [00:24:56] Speaker A: Yeah. Neither is Santander like their home run leader. [00:25:01] Speaker B: Guardians 5. That makes fair they don't have anybody leaving. Fair. [00:25:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:25:04] Speaker B: Yeah, that makes sense. Diamondback 6. That's a little high I think because Corbin Carroll did not really perform until like the last month and a half of the year. Christian Walker is leaving Jordan Montgomery and Eduardo Rodriguez did not perform like we expected them to at the beginning of the season. I don't. I think six is way too high. Katel Marte is really good. [00:25:28] Speaker A: But yeah, they're also losing Christian Walker unless they decide to bring him back. But I don't think they will. [00:25:34] Speaker B: No. [00:25:35] Speaker A: Where do you guys think Christian Walker is going to go? [00:25:37] Speaker B: A team that needs a first baseman. So I think. I think Yankees could probably shop him. I think. [00:25:43] Speaker A: Yeah, they already said that they were. [00:25:45] Speaker C: I wouldn't be surprised if he just resigns. [00:25:47] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:25:48] Speaker B: I mean, I mean in all honesty, if the Mets lose Alonso, I think Mets could maybe go for. [00:25:54] Speaker C: Yeah, no, I think that if they lose Alonso they're just going to do that thing where they move Vientos to first base instead. They wouldn't need to sign Walker at that point. And then they could just shift around the infield and let the young guys. [00:26:06] Speaker A: Play as you get Ronnie Mauricio back. [00:26:08] Speaker C: Too and he'll play second or that's. [00:26:10] Speaker A: Going to be like a fun team to watch this year if they don't start. [00:26:14] Speaker C: Owen plays every day and mauricio plays oh, 100% Soto like yeah, that too. That's. [00:26:22] Speaker A: You guys might just be the World Series favorites. [00:26:24] Speaker B: On that note. [00:26:27] Speaker A: On that note. [00:26:28] Speaker B: Braves at seven unbiasedly. I mean when we're at seven grave three. [00:26:35] Speaker C: Wait, which one? [00:26:37] Speaker A: I'm looking at MLB. [00:26:38] Speaker B: Oh, I'm looking at the ESPN that was released on October 29th. [00:26:42] Speaker A: Okay, I was looking at MLBS that was released like today. Oh well the which guardians are 10, brewers or not. I'll just send it to the group chat so everyone has it. [00:26:52] Speaker B: Well then I was. Then I'll just go while you do that. The Braves went healthy. Padres and Braves when fully healthy are the only two teams that can compete with the Dodgers at this moment in the nl. I'll hear nothing else that's fair. [00:27:05] Speaker A: But also yeah. So The Braves are at 3 in this one. [00:27:08] Speaker B: Phillies 2, Dodgers 1 With everyone being healthy. I agree and I'm trying not to be biased, but we've seen what Acuna can do with a full season. He almost won MVP his rookie year. [00:27:19] Speaker C: But is Spencer Strider going to be able to throw 100 with control Ozzy for an entire season after shoulder surgery? [00:27:26] Speaker A: Yeah, it's really just injuries. If you stay healthy you will be a good team. Aussie albies isn't going if we stay. [00:27:31] Speaker C: If we stay home, Acuna is gonna come back. You guys have out of things we. [00:27:35] Speaker B: Picked up Ozuna still have a bunch. [00:27:37] Speaker A: Of guys that are all all stars. Like Austin Riley's an all star caliber. [00:27:40] Speaker B: The only thing I'm worried about all. [00:27:42] Speaker A: Star caliber player obviously Acuna MVP caliber player Matt Olson MVP caliber player like you guys. [00:27:48] Speaker C: You gotta hope that Matt Olson comes back and doesn't and play like trash for a good couple of months this year. [00:27:53] Speaker B: Austin Riley. Austin Riley always like sneakily almost gets 40 home runs a year when he's healthy. [00:27:59] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:27:59] Speaker B: I mean with Gold glove defense he was a finalist last year but key Brian Hayes beat him out. [00:28:05] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:28:06] Speaker B: So the only yeah the only thing I'm worried about is do not re sign Charlie Morton. He's so old re sign Max Freedom and Joe Jimenez is probably out for the rest of the year unless he rehabs crazy good and he's a really good reliever. Aaron Bummer performed in positions. Pierce Johnson came from the Rockies and gave us good pitching. I did not expect that Risell Iglesias is going to win National League rookie, not rookie year, reliever of the year next year because Ryan Helsley people are going to see, oh, he only throws fastballs and it's not as good as class A. So they'll rock him. What else? That's about it. Luke Jackson. Spencer Schwellenbach performed really well. I want a five man rotation of Strider Sale, Freed, Schwellenbach and Reynaldo Lopez. [00:28:55] Speaker A: You guys bring in Snell. [00:28:57] Speaker B: If we bring in Snow, I mean we have. [00:28:59] Speaker A: Is that a possibility? [00:29:00] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean I think if they. [00:29:02] Speaker C: Were one of the favorites, right. [00:29:05] Speaker A: That was gonna shop. [00:29:06] Speaker B: If we lose Freed then I think especially also Freed. Yeah, if we lose, if we do not resign him Freed, we need to go after Snell. [00:29:15] Speaker A: I. The. The Dodgers are the Dodgers rotation is actually going to be like Otani, Yamamoto, Sasaki, Freed Glasnow. Oh, imagine Freed is your quarter quarterback. Your starting pitcher. 5. [00:29:33] Speaker C: I think crazy like hot take. I guess. I think one one of my dark horses for next year. Cy Young is Tyler Glasnow. [00:29:40] Speaker D: Yeah, I think a full season. [00:29:43] Speaker C: I know. But he is really good though. [00:29:46] Speaker A: Yeah. Because have you seen the size of his hands? Like when I was a Yankee when he was a Ray and the Yankees played the Rays, they like showed a graphic one time of him like showing his pitch grips. His fingers like wrap all the way around the baseball. Like his hands are like Kawhi Leonard's hand. [00:30:03] Speaker B: That's extra rotation. [00:30:04] Speaker A: It's like. Yeah, no wonder. That's what. It's ridiculous. It's. He was gripping the ball. I'm going to see if I can look this up. [00:30:11] Speaker B: He added a sinker this year too. I hope we all understand. Which just makes it that much. [00:30:15] Speaker C: He was so good when you play. [00:30:16] Speaker B: No, what I was saying was if we don't resign Freed, then I think we need to shop southpaws. I say we go after Snell or Mania because Maniah had a really good year. Get a really good year compared. [00:30:29] Speaker C: We'll get up. [00:30:29] Speaker A: This is his change up grip. [00:30:31] Speaker B: Where's the ball? [00:30:32] Speaker A: Exactly, exactly. I mean it's literally. Yeah. This is the exact graphic that they had popped up when he was on the raise. Look at, look at that. [00:30:46] Speaker C: Whoa, wait. [00:30:47] Speaker B: Goodness. That curveball grip. He's can almost wrap his fingers and touch his. [00:30:53] Speaker A: Yeah. Look at the fastball. [00:30:54] Speaker B: Grip. [00:30:55] Speaker A: His thumb is like touching his finger. It's. It's unbelievable. It's actually stupid. [00:31:02] Speaker B: I'm trying to look at pictures that we need to shop and I agree with Snell. I agree with. I mean, you want to know what I would really love? I would really love Corbin Burns to somehow want to come to the Braves. Goodness. [00:31:16] Speaker A: I mean, that's the picture that really does it. It's like, yeah, Glasnow is not going anywhere. [00:31:23] Speaker B: But no Glasnost. Not going anywhere. Burns. I mean, that would be fun. But I don't think Snell. [00:31:29] Speaker A: Where's Burns gonna go? [00:31:31] Speaker C: The Mets, I think. [00:31:33] Speaker A: I mean, you're not Getting him and Soto. [00:31:37] Speaker D: 70 million coming off the books with Steve. [00:31:39] Speaker A: Unless. Unless one of them's willing to take an Ohtani contract. Then you could get both of them. [00:31:44] Speaker C: I don't know. Especially with like Manaya and Sevy leaving. But is that confirmed? [00:31:49] Speaker A: I thought. I mean, they are taking the qualifying offer. [00:31:52] Speaker C: He probably. Oh, wait, was that reported? [00:31:54] Speaker A: He probably. [00:31:55] Speaker C: He probably will. But I mean, he didn't even like. He. I mean he was. He was good. He was good and he played. He pitched a full season and he pitched well. But also Katana's getting older and especially getting older. And I mean, Senga will be back. So they do have a bonafide ace who's young. Who's young? Well, he's not even that young. He's. He's like upper 20s still. Because he came from Japan. [00:32:19] Speaker A: He's coming right in his prime. [00:32:20] Speaker C: Well, that's true. [00:32:21] Speaker B: You want to know what I would love? Shane Bieber is a free agent. [00:32:25] Speaker C: That's what I'm saying. I want Shane Bieber. [00:32:26] Speaker A: So I talked to my grandfather about that. He's a big nuts fan. [00:32:30] Speaker C: So bad. My prediction for the beginning of this season was that the Guardians were gonna be bad and then Shane Bieber was going to be like a supreme top trade candidate and the Mets were going to trade for Shane Bieber. And I really wanted that to happen, but unfortunately Bieber got injured and the Guardians were buyers. But I mean, if the Mets could sign him in off in the off season this year, I mean, coming off the injury and like an entire season not playing, there's a lot of risk. But I love Shane Bieber. I like, I. He's awesome and I love watching him. So it'd be super cool to have him on the Mets. No doubt. [00:33:07] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean he's. He has. I mean he's proven. But obviously coming off the injury gambled. [00:33:14] Speaker C: And hopefully David Peterson can be good this year. [00:33:16] Speaker A: Yeah. Right. [00:33:17] Speaker B: Once spring training comes up, you know. [00:33:19] Speaker A: Who I'm predictions A guy who I really curious to see how he pitches this year. Oh, Donnie. Seth Lugo. [00:33:27] Speaker B: Seth. Oh, yeah, yeah. [00:33:28] Speaker A: I mean, he was a scion runner. Probably like. [00:33:34] Speaker C: Yeah, he's in. He's a finalist. [00:33:35] Speaker B: He's. He's a finalist. [00:33:37] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:33:37] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. We didn't even go over the finals because it's just scubal. [00:33:41] Speaker C: But Class Aide was a finalist though. [00:33:43] Speaker B: Class A was a finalist. [00:33:44] Speaker C: Yeah, he was. [00:33:45] Speaker B: Wow. [00:33:45] Speaker D: First reliever since 2008. [00:33:47] Speaker B: Which was 2008. [00:33:49] Speaker A: Oh, God. But even still, like, no, don't think it was. [00:33:54] Speaker C: Seth Lugo will probably still finish above Class A in the voting. I think, I think, I think he should. I would, but I think Lugo had a great year. But I think you're right. And then it's hard to tell. I think that was, that was one of like the driving things behind my Royals, like dark horse pick preseason was. I actually really liked that signing for them. And I don't know if it'll hold up for another year because he's also getting older. But I mean they also have a lot of other guys who are getting better, but also guys definitely overperformed as well. Like Michael Waka. Like, you cannot. I mean, I don't even know if he'll still be there, but you also can't expect him to be as good as he was this year. [00:34:31] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:34:32] Speaker C: Next year. [00:34:33] Speaker A: Right. [00:34:33] Speaker B: So I don't even know anybody in their bullpen. [00:34:36] Speaker D: I don't know if they're saying that's about it. [00:34:38] Speaker B: Aircraft. [00:34:38] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:34:41] Speaker B: He'S a dog. [00:34:42] Speaker A: But they had, they have like I almost carbon copies of each other in their bullpen. [00:34:49] Speaker B: So the Royals bullpen is like the Orioles field. [00:34:52] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:34:54] Speaker A: Yes. They had like two lefties that threw like pretty well, but I forget their names. But Yankees, Yankees. Royal Series. Feels like an eternity ago. [00:35:07] Speaker B: Like series 21 and 2/3 innings of no run baseball from your relievers in that. [00:35:12] Speaker A: That was. I wish it stayed that way. [00:35:15] Speaker B: I don't. [00:35:16] Speaker A: I don't care. I know, I know, I know you don't care. [00:35:19] Speaker C: Wait, speaking of. Here you go. I actually, this is from one week ago. I just didn't realize that Michael Walker is signed a three year deal to stay with the Rose. [00:35:27] Speaker B: Okay, all right, all right. [00:35:30] Speaker A: We're gonna head to a short break here and when we come back, we're just gonna talk some more free agency and maybe some predictions for free agency rather than where we just think everyone's going. To go. I don't know. We'll talk about it when we're back here on student section mlb. Wvuafm Tuscaloosa. Welcome back to student section mlb. All right, well, we've covered awfully a lot, but there's still more to talk about. [00:36:19] Speaker B: So the Marlins new manager is the right Dodgers. [00:36:23] Speaker A: That is the first base coach. That's right. Do you have his name? I forgot. [00:36:27] Speaker B: I'm not very good with manager names. I mean, y'all were reading. You were reading off the list of awards. And I recognized Stephen Vogt and I recognized Stephen. [00:36:37] Speaker A: Yeah, let me. Let me pull up. [00:36:43] Speaker B: But I mean, Clayton McLeod. [00:36:46] Speaker A: That's the name. [00:36:46] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:36:47] Speaker A: Yeah. All right. Well, there you go. Clayton McLeod. [00:36:51] Speaker B: I mean, the Marlins now have somebody who. [00:36:53] Speaker A: Winning culture. They have winning culture. [00:36:56] Speaker B: No, I'm not sure that you could say that they have the culture just from one person. That's a. The Marlins are the Mullins. [00:37:02] Speaker A: They have somebody who knows about a. [00:37:04] Speaker C: Good move to the playoffs. [00:37:06] Speaker B: They had a good comeback win against the Rockies that one time. [00:37:10] Speaker C: Yeah, that too. [00:37:11] Speaker A: Yeah. I do remember that they had an. [00:37:14] Speaker B: MVP winner in 2017 and then a. [00:37:17] Speaker C: Couple years ago who isn't good anymore and injured. [00:37:21] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm talking about Stanton. They had a. Yeah, they did. They did have a Cy Young winner. Oh, my gosh. He only won that because he pitched 385innings. [00:37:29] Speaker A: He's like really good if he's healthy. It's usually how it goes in the MLB if you're in the mlb. [00:37:34] Speaker C: But also like this year, like he wasn't as good when he was pitching. [00:37:39] Speaker A: Right off the rip. [00:37:40] Speaker C: The injury bug is rough for him. [00:37:42] Speaker A: The first few starts of the season he got absolutely shelled like. Yeah, but like prime Sandy Alcantara was. [00:37:51] Speaker C: He also just has insane stuff. Is unreal. [00:37:55] Speaker A: Yeah, no, he's really. There's a lot of guys in the league that have really, really good stuff that just can't really seem to use it to their advantage. Making 28 star bruised our grade roll like those guys. These. These are some of the guys that have. And you know, I don't know if you guys gnome. You know, a Yankee who has some of the nastiest stuff I have ever seen on a baseball field can't stay healthy. [00:38:22] Speaker D: Jonathan Lewis, I want him to serene sign him. [00:38:25] Speaker A: Oh my. That was one of the biggest losses of the Yankee season and it happened pretty early on. But if we had him 20, 21. [00:38:33] Speaker D: Jonathan Eliza, one of the nasty believers. [00:38:37] Speaker A: He has like 22 inches of arm side run on his sinker and throws it like 99 and throws like 100. But again, just injury bug and sometimes just location issues is holding guy like him from being the reliever of the year because like so many of the guys like Bruce Dar Grader, all the guy in the Dodgers crazy stuff. But injury bug and can't find the zone at times. [00:39:02] Speaker B: I just checked the Cy young voting from 202022 and Luke Anderson and I. I heard you say he had 28 starts this year. [00:39:10] Speaker C: No. Yeah, that was 2023. He didn't play this past year. [00:39:13] Speaker B: Freed the top three Cy Young voting the year Sandy. That's why it's so forgettable. This top three for NL Cy Young voting. When Sandy won, it was Sandy Alcantara, Max Freed and Julio Urias. Yeah. Wow. Last out of of the 2020 World Series. And then he celebrated by punching his wife. [00:39:35] Speaker A: Yep. And he will never sniff the. [00:39:38] Speaker C: No, no, no, no, no. [00:39:40] Speaker B: He looks like off brand Kareem Abdul Jabbar with those goggles. Anyway, yeah, the Marlins have a winning culture now. [00:39:52] Speaker A: Everyone's just catching strays on this show today. [00:39:55] Speaker C: This is a crazy. [00:39:57] Speaker B: We haven't even mentioned Roki Sasaki. [00:39:59] Speaker A: Yeah, I, I mentioned. He had a small mention before. [00:40:02] Speaker C: Yeah, he's gonna go to the Dodgers. [00:40:04] Speaker A: Because I was just mentioning the Dodgers 2025 rotation. [00:40:07] Speaker B: The Okinawa Dodgers. [00:40:08] Speaker A: Yeah, Seriously, it's. [00:40:10] Speaker B: Goodness. [00:40:10] Speaker A: Got Otani who hasn't thrown a pitch yet, so we'll see. But obviously it's just gonna be amazing. He'll hit 40 homers. [00:40:19] Speaker B: He could have a nine ERA and still win the MVP because he's going to hit 58. [00:40:26] Speaker A: He'll hit. He'll hit 55 homer or 53 homers next year. [00:40:29] Speaker B: He'll steal less bases. [00:40:31] Speaker A: I'd say 39, maybe 40 stolen bases. [00:40:33] Speaker B: Oh, back to back. [00:40:35] Speaker A: 40, 40. Yeah. And he's gonna post up like a two. Eight with like 250 strikeouts. [00:40:40] Speaker B: 250 is a lot. I say two. [00:40:43] Speaker A: Why, why are there less strikeouts in today's game? [00:40:47] Speaker B: Those though batters are. [00:40:49] Speaker A: You look back, you look back at like Astros, Garrett Cole days when he was in the month of. What was it like, month of July. He was 19 and 2 with like a 1 ERA and 158 strikeouts or something in 2019. [00:41:03] Speaker B: Yeah, he finished with 307 strikeouts. Yeah, he had over. [00:41:07] Speaker A: He had over 300 strikeouts and didn't win the Cy Young. [00:41:10] Speaker B: Who won it in 2019. [00:41:11] Speaker D: Wow. [00:41:12] Speaker B: He did win 300 strikeouts and you. [00:41:16] Speaker A: Didn'T win the Cy Young. [00:41:19] Speaker B: I mean, that sounds like Chris Sale in 2018. Crazy. Sale had, I think 300 exact and didn't win Cy Young. [00:41:26] Speaker A: Who won it that year? [00:41:27] Speaker D: Rick Porcello. [00:41:28] Speaker B: That year? No, 2018, I think was Kluber. No, no, no, no, no, it was not. [00:41:31] Speaker D: What year was Rick Porcella? [00:41:33] Speaker B: Rick Porcello, I think was 2015. More years. [00:41:36] Speaker C: 2017. [00:41:36] Speaker A: David Price win one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:41:40] Speaker C: But not 2000. [00:41:41] Speaker B: He wasn't 18. 2018 just seems like it's such a big. Because that was the dot. That was the. Not Dodgers. That was the Red Sox year. [00:41:49] Speaker A: Yeah. When they used Apple watches to cheat for their championship. Okay, I just need to make sure. [00:41:55] Speaker B: I'm trying to think of Al Cy Young. [00:41:56] Speaker C: Voting for 2018 was noted NL Cy Young winner Blake Snow. [00:42:02] Speaker B: What about Al? Because that's where Chris Sale was. [00:42:04] Speaker A: That's what it was. [00:42:05] Speaker C: Yeah, because he was on the race. Because remember, he's one of the only pitchers to win it in both leagues. [00:42:10] Speaker B: You're right. [00:42:10] Speaker C: Because he won an incentive. [00:42:11] Speaker B: Read that all. How did Sale not win that? [00:42:13] Speaker C: Because I don't know. [00:42:15] Speaker A: Nuts on the raise that year. [00:42:16] Speaker C: Marcelo wanted in 2016, Kluber in 27, and Robbie Ray in 2021. [00:42:24] Speaker A: 2017. Corey Kluber needs to be studied. [00:42:27] Speaker B: I forgot Robbie Ray won it because in 2021, I almost said the Giants went really well because I was associating Robbie Ray on the Giants. No. 20, 21. Robbie Ray. I don't know how he won Cyc. I don't even remember that. I don't even remember 2021. I have remember it. For one thing, it was the Braves winning the World Series. [00:42:50] Speaker A: Well, yeah, that would be rememberable. [00:42:54] Speaker C: I would think. [00:42:55] Speaker A: I would think you would. I would hope you'd remember that. No. 20. Yeah. Post the. I really don't remember much pre Covid. Like. Like the. Like the few years pre Covid. I need to be refreshed with, like, everything. [00:43:09] Speaker B: I remember the 2016 World Series. That's my favorite World Series. [00:43:12] Speaker A: Yeah. I remember the 2016 AL. [00:43:14] Speaker C: How can it not be CS oh, swinging a drive. [00:43:21] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. That. That excursion. [00:43:26] Speaker C: I listen to that call like it. [00:43:28] Speaker A: Plays in my head, like, once. [00:43:29] Speaker C: That is one of my favorite calls in sports ever. Especially because I root for Lindor now. It's so funny. Also, when Lindor hit. Well, shout out to you guys. I love this one. When Lindor hit three homers in the Subway Series. [00:43:43] Speaker A: That one back. And then that call. Chirpy. [00:43:46] Speaker C: That call by Matt was really, really good too. [00:43:49] Speaker A: That was a great game. Did he get another One and then Stanton went yard and when he was passing Lindor at short, he was like talking a bunch. [00:43:57] Speaker C: Yeah, that was a good game. Wasn't that the game on 911? [00:44:00] Speaker A: Yeah, it was. [00:44:01] Speaker C: That was a really good game. [00:44:03] Speaker A: The New York, the subway series gets tr. Like chippy. Like, I think there should be a Soto. [00:44:08] Speaker C: Like you said this last week, if Soto goes to the. [00:44:10] Speaker A: Oh, my God. He's getting a fastball to the center of his back. Garrett. [00:44:15] Speaker B: Garrett Cole. [00:44:15] Speaker A: From Garrett Cole. He's Gonna dial up 20, 2018 Garrett Cole and dial it up to 101 and just drill Soto. He will become that the most loved and the most hated man in New York at the same time if he goes to the Mets. [00:44:27] Speaker B: I'm trying to remember everything pre Covid. I remember 2019, Acuna's grand slam off Walker Bueller in the playoffs off of a terrible strike one call. What else? No, I don't. I mean, obviously the Astros Yankees game in 2017 games, was it six or seven? It was six. [00:44:47] Speaker C: I already missed baseball. [00:44:48] Speaker B: I do miss baseball. [00:44:50] Speaker C: We need 20, 25 already. We need spring training already. [00:44:53] Speaker B: We need to make a softball league. [00:44:55] Speaker C: That would be so fun. [00:44:56] Speaker B: Just. [00:44:57] Speaker A: That would be a lot of fun. Not gonna lie. [00:45:00] Speaker B: I will keep that idea out there. Then. [00:45:02] Speaker C: There you go. We just gotta find. If they do wreck in the spring. [00:45:05] Speaker B: We gotta find anyone. [00:45:06] Speaker C: If anyone, any of our viewers are students here and you want to are interested, you can call in. I don't know if there's a number to call in. [00:45:16] Speaker B: To my grandfather watching. Don't call in. [00:45:20] Speaker C: We could use it. [00:45:20] Speaker B: They won't let you play softball. [00:45:22] Speaker A: Oh, man. [00:45:26] Speaker B: We're trying to pass time because nothing happened in free agency. Nothing is happening. [00:45:31] Speaker A: Waiting for something because something big is coming. It's brewing. [00:45:35] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:45:35] Speaker B: Next week we have. We have our one show, then we have Thanksgiving break, then dead week. I don't think we have a show. [00:45:41] Speaker A: And then we're just. [00:45:42] Speaker B: Finals week. [00:45:42] Speaker C: We don't have finals week. We definitely don't. We might have another show before. [00:45:46] Speaker A: We definitely have, like, definitely. Dead week is probably an optional show, but with the amount of nothing we've had to cover, I would. [00:45:53] Speaker C: Something will happen. Something will happen. [00:45:55] Speaker B: I would like to have. [00:45:56] Speaker A: I would like to be. [00:45:57] Speaker B: Before we're gone a month. [00:45:58] Speaker C: Something will happen. Trust everyone's going to the Met. [00:46:02] Speaker A: Steve Cohen, every single going to the. [00:46:05] Speaker C: Mets, and it's going to be awesome. [00:46:08] Speaker A: Every single guy on the. On the free agent market is a New York Met and you heard it first. [00:46:14] Speaker C: And Max Freed is going to the Cubs. [00:46:16] Speaker B: Shut up. We lost Dansby. I'm not losing Free. I'm not losing another Brave to the. [00:46:21] Speaker C: C. Freed is going to Chicago. [00:46:23] Speaker B: We're signing Cody Bellinger. But he signed a contract. Don't care. Shut up. [00:46:27] Speaker A: They need. They need pitching, Matt. [00:46:29] Speaker C: They need. Oh, they. [00:46:30] Speaker A: No. [00:46:30] Speaker C: Bellinger accepted his option. [00:46:32] Speaker A: He did. [00:46:32] Speaker B: He did. [00:46:33] Speaker C: He was the one, like, the one person to do that, which was, I thought was very. [00:46:37] Speaker A: Trade deadline. [00:46:38] Speaker C: I thought was interesting. Yeah, that too. [00:46:40] Speaker A: Trade deadline. No. The Cubs need one more bat. [00:46:43] Speaker C: The Cubs would actually be good this year, though. [00:46:44] Speaker A: Cubs are out of contention. Cody Bellinger, you are a New York Met. All right. Hey, we covered as much as we could today. [00:46:52] Speaker C: It was a fun one. [00:46:53] Speaker A: It was a fun one. I like to have fun. When we don't have much professional stuff to talk about. [00:46:59] Speaker B: Something is bound to happen. [00:47:00] Speaker A: It has to happen. It has to happen. [00:47:02] Speaker B: We're bound. It's bound to. [00:47:04] Speaker A: Kids, keep your eyes peeled, ears peeled. [00:47:06] Speaker B: We'll put something to ESPN notifications on. [00:47:09] Speaker A: Right when we get off air. Juan Soto is gonna make it. I would come back on air. [00:47:14] Speaker D: Yes. [00:47:15] Speaker B: We'd have to hop. [00:47:16] Speaker A: All right, well, we will see you next. [00:47:19] Speaker C: Yeah. Next Monday. [00:47:20] Speaker A: Yes, we'll see you next Monday. Hopefully something happens. Enjoy your the rest of your week and roll tide. Roll tide.
