[00:00:00] Speaker A: WVUAFM Tuscaloosa. [00:00:17] Speaker B: Welcome back, everyone to WVUFM 90.7, the Capstone's MBA student section. I'm your host, Zachary Elrod, and here with me, as always, is Trey Simpson. How are we feeling, Trey? [00:00:29] Speaker A: I'm feeling good, man. Good to be back on there. [00:00:32] Speaker B: Good to be back. All right, we got a great show for y'all today. NBA news. We got to get into Jimmy Butler, Luka not being available for post, post season awards. Then we got the NBA All Star voting. Then for our second segment, we're going to be getting into an all Star voting, you know, a little fun trivia, esque segment and then for the awards of the week, it's going to be a great show. So let's jump straight into it now. Jimmy Butler continues to demand a trade out of Miami. Having to face meetings with Pat Riley and he's. He wants out. Trey, I don't know if you've been hearing the news. What do you think about this whole, whole situation out in Miami? [00:01:16] Speaker A: Yeah, I was surprised when I found out, you know, Jimmy wanted like he requested the trade. Well, I wasn't surprised at that point because it was already in the media that they were having, you know, off court problems. But in terms of, you know, all the drama that came with it, like him missing shoot arounds and practices and the fight, did you hear about how they're about to change his fine or possibly change his fine? [00:01:39] Speaker B: I did hear about that. Yeah. [00:01:40] Speaker A: Yeah, it'll cost more money, make it. [00:01:42] Speaker B: Even more severe because he keeps, he continues to miss games, continues to miss practices like you said, and going face to face with Pat Riley and just saying, hey, I want out, dude now. And I heard his favorite destinations are Phoenix, Dallas, Houston. [00:02:00] Speaker A: The Warriors. [00:02:01] Speaker B: Warriors. Yes, I heard that too. But then there's rumors going around about Milwaukee. What do you think about that? [00:02:07] Speaker A: That would be crazy considering they already have Dame even though Middleton is injured. They have Middleton and Giannis. I mean, that'll be, that'll be crazy if that would happen. But I don't see that happening though. [00:02:21] Speaker B: That would be an interesting duo. But me personally, on the question of where I would want to see him go, not where do I think he's going to go. I think I would want to see him on the Warriors. [00:02:34] Speaker A: Yeah, the Warriors. [00:02:35] Speaker B: I just, I really want to see Curry with a second star because I think, and I love their lineup, but I think in order for them to make that push, I know we've been talking about it in previous episodes, we. He needs A second star. And I think if Jimmy Butler's got to be that guy, then I would like to see how he fits in their system. [00:02:55] Speaker A: I feel you. I was thinking, I heard talks about the spurs too. [00:03:00] Speaker B: Spurs? [00:03:01] Speaker A: Yeah. Between him and, you know, CP3 and Wimby, that would be interesting trio that. [00:03:07] Speaker B: Would want to see how that would work out. They would have to give up a good bit because, you know, he's getting paid quite a bit out. You know, he's getting quite, quite a bit of money out there. So for the spurs to combat that, I mean, they gotta, they gotta give a lot of assets up, which could include, I'm sure, some draft capital. But for me, I would have to go with the Warriors. Trey, if you had to pick a team that you want Jimmy to go to, where would it be? Any team. [00:03:38] Speaker A: I'm gonna say, I'm gonna say the Rockets. [00:03:45] Speaker B: The Rockets. You want to see them on Houston? [00:03:47] Speaker A: See him on Houston. [00:03:48] Speaker B: Why is that? Why is that? [00:03:51] Speaker A: I don't even know. Like, it's just a wild card, to be honest. Like, think about it. With him, Van Vliet, like, this is just off the top. Him, Van Vliet, Jalen Green. [00:04:01] Speaker B: They might have to give up Jalen Green for Jimmy. I don't know. [00:04:05] Speaker A: I don't see them giving. Not because they just paid Jalen Green, so. And then he's got a contract. So I don't think, you know. [00:04:12] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:12] Speaker A: Did he get extended over the summer? [00:04:14] Speaker B: He did, I'm pretty sure. But like with, with Jimmy's salary combined, you know, you gotta, that's gotta even out. That's gotta even out somehow. And then Miami wants a lot for him, you know, that's the reason why there were rumors early on that Phoenix would be a great destination for Jimmy Butler and it would be a Bradley bill, Jimmy Butler trademark. But Miami doesn't want Bradley Beal. And frankly, I don't know if anyone really, you know, I mean, is that high on a Bradley Beal trade, you know, just based off his injury history so far and what he's doing on the court. Yeah, but I mean, Jimmy Butler right now, I would like to see him on the Warriors. It would just depend. I would like to see how Steve Kerr kind of, you know, since he's not really the Klay Thompson that they used to have, or he doesn't really fit that Persona as far as like three point specialist, whatever you want to. [00:05:08] Speaker A: Call it, you know, I mean, but Curry likes to play off ball. So the way Jimmy plays, you know, he. He wants to get, you know, to his spots anyway. So true. Him being so athletic as well. It'll open up, you know, the floor for, like, Curry and other players, too, because Andrew Wiggins, you know, he's not as athletic as he, you know, once was when he was younger. But true, he still is athletic enough, but, like, you know what I'm saying, compared to Jimmy Butler is a difference. [00:05:35] Speaker B: That is true. Yeah. It's just. I would just like to see how they center their offense around him, especially with guys like Jonathan Kaminga getting better on the Warriors. You mentioned Andrew Wiggins, too. He's a big part of their offense, buddy. He healed. He was a great, great pickup for them in the off season. But where do I think he's going to go? Like, actually, I think Milwaukee does seem like a really high possibility. Just because Milwaukee has. They've had their ups and downs this season. I mean, there's no ands or. But ifs, whatever you want to call it. There's nothing. They've had their downs, they have their ups and they're starting. They're starting to look more up now. Dame's starting to be more consistent. Giannis is just doing what he does best on both ends of the floor. But it's just. I don't know, they could make a push for, you know, they could make a push for a third star if they need. If they think that's what's necessary, especially with Khris Middleton in and out of the rotation. Like you mentioned Trey, I wouldn't be surprised if he would be a part of that deal. [00:06:42] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:06:43] Speaker B: What about you? What do you think? Where do you think Jimmy is going to go? [00:06:48] Speaker A: Phoenix or Milwaukee or, like you said, the Warriors. I got those three. And, like, the top three. [00:06:54] Speaker B: I got you on Butler. So. [00:06:56] Speaker A: Even about Brooklyn, but I don't really know how true that was because. [00:07:00] Speaker B: Oh, I did hear about that. That was in the very beginning. Yeah, that was in the very beginning. Brooklyn. It's just. I don't think that's a good trade at all, because they're a young team. They're rebuilding. Why on earth would you get a Jimmy Butler? [00:07:15] Speaker A: You know where he could go? [00:07:17] Speaker B: Where? [00:07:17] Speaker A: Back to Minnesota. [00:07:19] Speaker B: Minnesota. [00:07:20] Speaker A: Back to Minnesota. Go ahead and trade. I'm not even gonna say Trey. Julius Randall, man. Trey, Gobert. [00:07:27] Speaker B: Gobert. And, like, you'd have to put some other pieces with that, but a Minnesota. I don't even know if he would like that, though. I don't know. That'd be. That'd be really interesting. Him and Anthony Edwards on the same team, too. I don't know that I'll even throw. [00:07:45] Speaker A: Julius Randle in there, just, you know, for the trio sake. But, you know, know he's like, up and down. [00:07:49] Speaker B: But that just sounds like dysfunction to me. I mean, just Anthony Edwards and Jimmy Butler on the same team, like, who's gonna be the top dog? You know what I'm saying, man, they're. [00:08:00] Speaker A: Gonna push each other. It's gonna be like a Goku Vegeta situation for all the DBZ fans out there. Think about it. They're both gonna be like, you know, they're both. They both have a high, like, competitive spirit. [00:08:11] Speaker B: I hear what you're saying. Yeah, I would really be interested to see that. I really, really would. Now, moving on, I think we spoke our piece on Jimmy Butler. Luka Doncic is not eligible for NBA awards. And this is huge. I mean, in the beginning of the year when we were having our shows, we thought, you know, Lukas up there for mvp. Shai Jokic, obviously, right now, Jokic is the front runner. And then Giannis, you can put him in there. I think Jokic is the front runner, dude. [00:08:42] Speaker A: Man, I would give it to Shay, bro. Like, he should won the last year. I want him to get it this year. [00:08:47] Speaker B: I didn't say by a wide margin or anything, but, I mean, yeah, I think it is very close, just like last year. But Nicole Jokic is still. I think people still put him on that pedestal as the number one player in the NBA right now. But how do you. [00:09:05] Speaker A: He is. But I would just say, like, I still want MVP to get, you know, Shady get mvp, but Yokage is still like, the best in the league. [00:09:15] Speaker B: If I had to pick, it would be. It would most definitely be Shay with in a heartbeat, because Jokic already has three, and it's just like four mvps. Is that even, like, real? You know, is this a 2k simulation or something? [00:09:29] Speaker A: He can get it next year, just not this year. Just not Jason together last season, I feel like. [00:09:34] Speaker B: But I don't know if we kind of answered my question already. How do you think this affects the MVP race with Luka officially ineligible for the award? [00:09:44] Speaker A: Somebody else to just move up, like. [00:09:46] Speaker B: You know, maybe Giannis, maybe. [00:09:50] Speaker A: How's Tatum been doing? [00:09:51] Speaker B: Like, Tatum's. Tatum's been hooping. But I think. I think the top three right now is Jokic, Shai and Giannis. I think that's the top three. [00:10:04] Speaker A: Yeah. You know, I'm. I'm good with that. But like I said, I put Shay at number one, Jokic number two. And who. [00:10:16] Speaker B: You said Giannis. Yeah, Giannis and then Giannis at three. But Jokic, I mean, OKC has been. They obviously have the better seating, too, so. So that you kind of had to play, you know, you kind of had to put that in. You know, they have the better seeding. Shea is leading them to a number one seed just like he did last year. Now, if it's a repeat, then, you know, if it's just rinse and repeat like it was last year, then we know it's going to happen. But you got to take that into consideration, too. He's led this team for, you could say three years now. As far as, like, the legit guide, watch out for Shay, you know, so I think there's something to that and I think there's. He deserves respect for that, obviously. So I'm not saying you're wrong at all, Trey. I just think it's close. [00:11:12] Speaker A: Yeah, it's close. [00:11:13] Speaker B: Well, you can go either way. [00:11:14] Speaker A: It just depends on how you look at it. [00:11:15] Speaker B: But, you know, it does depend on how you look at it. All right, before we get done with this, the NBA news, let's give a quick shout out to the NBA All Star voting. I wanted to get your thought on this, Trey, because we got Nikola Jokic leading the front court for the West. We got Giannis leading the front court for the East. Giannis has a chance to lead the front court for the east two times in a row, back to back years as far as All Star voting. And then Lamelo Ball, Eastern Conference guards, he's leading them number one with a whole bunch of votes. I mean, what's your thoughts on the LaMelo ball this season? [00:11:55] Speaker A: I like it. I mean, he's been on the tear. [00:11:57] Speaker B: He really has. [00:11:58] Speaker A: Like, just. He's just having fun out there. Effortless. [00:12:02] Speaker B: Lamelo has been balling out and it's. The Hornets aren't as bad as they were last year. I mean, I saw recently, Mark Williams has been putting up some numbers. Brandon Miller's. He's been putting up numbers, but, you know, he's kind of had injuries here and there. But I mean, when LaMelo Ball gets going, I mean, this team is different. It's a team to watch out for because, I mean, Last year when LaMelo was out, I mean, sure, Brandon Miller had his moments to shine and they have other guys like Trey Burke, like I mentioned Mark Williams, but I mean, really outside of that, they're just, you know, you know, teams weren't really worried about him. But now when you got Lamelo, I mean probably going to be an all star starter. I'd be shocked if he wasn't at this point. I mean, things are looking up for the Hornets. So what do you, what do you think overall this does for the Hornets in their franchise as far as confidence? [00:12:58] Speaker A: I mean things are looking up for them. I don't know what kind of draft capital they have right. Like for of the upcoming season, but considering who they have on the team right now, like you know, Melo Miles. [00:13:11] Speaker B: Bridges and Miles Bridges too. Yep. [00:13:16] Speaker A: Oh, Brandon Miller. My bad. UA own those. Like we they got a couple guys, they have a decent squad but like they definitely, you know, could use at least a lottery pick. I'm not even going to say top three, but they could use a lottery pick. Know what I mean? Preferably like a big to go ahead and complete like a center specifically. [00:13:37] Speaker B: Yeah. And then for the Guards in the west, your shades. Shay Gilgeous Alexander, number one for Guards in the West. And then I want to give a quick shout out to guys that could be first time All Stars guys like, well, this is kind of funny. Number 10 for the guards or the Western Conference. Not funny that he doesn't deserve it. But you don't normally see this name. Norman Powell. He's sitting on the list, but he has been putting up some great numbers for la. I mean arguably he's probably at times our number one scorer outside of, I mean even over Harden, he's putting up as far as points are concerned, he's putting up more numbers than Harden at times. So glad to see him on the list. Jordan Poole, number eight in Guards in the East. He's been, he's been finding his stride in Washington. Definitely something to look forward to as far as the continuation of his season. And then we got guys like Darius Garland who's kind of had his ups and downs this season. But I mean he's really starting to find his stride and I think the pressure is just starting to get more and more relieved off him, especially with Evan Mobley stepping up. [00:14:48] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:14:49] Speaker B: What do you think about. What do you think about that Cavs team? I know you, we talked about them in previous episodes and how we love them. What do you think about them so far continuing on this season? [00:15:00] Speaker A: Yeah, well, I don't want to sound like a broken record. I mean, of course that we know they look good. Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell, man, first of all, this is kind of like it's on topic, but it's off topic to the question. But Donovan Mitchell's two steps men move, you know, that. That spin move that looked like a travel, that gather step. Not gonna lie. That was filthy. I tried to do it, man. Almost twisted my ankle. Not really. I wasn't that uncoordinated. But at the same time, you know, might have been dust on the court. Anyway, man, they look good. I'm glad they're above the Celtics. It's like, in terms of seating right now. But that matchup, it's been, you know, I think what, they're even right now in their series, right? They're like one and one maybe, because I know the Celtics won that first game and, you know, kind of like shut them up for a second, but I think they bounced back with a win. But it's been times where, like, you know, they, like, either one has been out, like, both of the stars, they've been out for, like, injuries. They've still been doing, like, good. So. [00:15:59] Speaker B: But I mean, the Celtics just the other night got beat by the Raptors and they were fully healthy. So, I mean, this Celtics team might not be so perfect after all. [00:16:07] Speaker A: So it might have been a case of, like, them taking the Raptors lightly because, you know, it's like Toronto Raptors like, oh, know, taking them a little more lighter than what, Lakers or Dallas or anything else. So I don't know. [00:16:19] Speaker B: Yeah, well, that's going to do it. We'll be right back after this short break. You are listening to WVU FM 90.7, the Capstone's NBA student section. And we'll be right back. Ready? [00:16:45] Speaker A: Go. [00:16:46] Speaker B: Okay. Dr. Operation no to most amazing care. They changed my life. Highness Hospital for children. Cause people just like you, kids like me can play in the game of life. [00:17:06] Speaker A: Thank you. [00:17:08] Speaker B: Go to lovechritis.org right away. Thank you. Welcome back to WVUFM 90.7, the Capstone's MBA student section. We're back and we're getting into a little All Star voting segment, A little trivia action. So here's some history for you, Trey. In 1974 through the 75 season, fans were first allowed to vote for All Star starters, while the coaches would pick up seven reserves for their respective conference. So all this started back in 1974 through the 75 season. Now on to the big question. There have been 10 players to have led the All Star fan vote in multiple years. So basically, they were number one in voting in multiple, you know, multiple All Star votes. Now there are 10 of those players who have done it multiple times. Who are they now? I'll give You Some. Some hints. One of them has led it 10 times and could possibly be called the greatest of all time. Yeah, it is questionable. It's questionable. Number nine is the other guy that a lot of people say is the greatest of all time also. And then there's some guys that have done it four times that one of them's kind of interesting. And one of them, you might not guess. And then there have been, I would say, yep, five guys that have done it two times. Now. Where do you want to start? You want to start the 10 mark 9? Where do you want to start? [00:18:57] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm going to just spitball right quick because you gave two of them away. M.J. leBron. [00:19:04] Speaker B: There we go. You got an M.J. leBron. [00:19:06] Speaker A: This is the ones that you were probably thinking I wasn't gonna get. Is Magic Johnson on that list? [00:19:12] Speaker B: Yes, Magic Johnson is on that list. [00:19:15] Speaker A: Larry Bird. [00:19:16] Speaker B: Nope. Larry Bird is not on the list. [00:19:19] Speaker A: Is Kareem on that list? [00:19:21] Speaker B: He is actually not. [00:19:23] Speaker A: He's not. Okay. I know. Will Chamberlain. Will Chamberlain. Question mark. Not that far back. [00:19:28] Speaker B: Nope. Basically, the timeline is 1978 to 2023. [00:19:33] Speaker A: Dr. J. Yep. [00:19:35] Speaker B: Dr. J. Okay, four times. Four times Dr. J has led the All Star fan voting. 1978, 1981, 1982, and 1983. [00:19:46] Speaker A: Give me Kobe Bryant. [00:19:48] Speaker B: Kobe Bean. Bryant is also one. He has led it four times. [00:19:53] Speaker A: Give me Allen Iverson. [00:19:55] Speaker B: He is actually what? Not let it Multiple times. I believe he led it once back. I forget. [00:20:03] Speaker A: Carmelo Ant. Nah. He ain't never lead. Nah. What am I at so far? Like, I'm at, like, five or six. [00:20:10] Speaker B: You are at, I believe, five. Yep. You're at five. So you're halfway through. So now, Stephen Curry. Nope. Not Steph Curry. [00:20:22] Speaker A: Not step. Okay, one. [00:20:24] Speaker B: I'll give you one. I'll give you a hint. He had some battles with Shaq. Shaq and him are known to be good buddies. [00:20:31] Speaker A: He's super tall. [00:20:32] Speaker B: Yep. Y. Ming. [00:20:33] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. I didn't even say Shaq. Is Shaq on the list? [00:20:35] Speaker B: Nope. Oh, okay. [00:20:37] Speaker A: Yeah. Yao Ming. [00:20:38] Speaker B: And then thought I'd give it away that easy. Try. [00:20:40] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:20:40] Speaker B: Give it away that easy. [00:20:43] Speaker A: Man. I'm really thinking right now, one of. [00:20:46] Speaker B: Them is in starting a league out in China, a basketball league out in China right now, and he's promoting it. Known to be a dunker. Superman's in the building. [00:20:59] Speaker A: Oh, Dwight. Dwight Howard. [00:21:01] Speaker B: Yep. He led it twice. 2009 and 2012. All right, so you got three more. I think you only got three. Yep. Three more. Three More left. These are kind of the oddball ones. [00:21:15] Speaker A: Kevin Durant. [00:21:16] Speaker B: Nope. Kevin Durant has not led it multiple times. [00:21:19] Speaker A: Okay, what about Giannis? Is Giannis on the list? [00:21:21] Speaker B: He could be this year, but he hasn't. You know, all the votes haven't come in yet. But he does have a chance to do it this year. Now, one of them. [00:21:31] Speaker A: Okay, what positions are they? Let me get that. [00:21:34] Speaker B: Positions. Yeah, one's. Well, two of them, actually. Both. All of them are wings. So, like one's a three or two of them are threes. So small forward. And then the other one could be a small forward, shooting guard. [00:21:49] Speaker A: If it's not KD. And we already got LeBron. [00:21:52] Speaker B: One of them's nickname. I'll let you know. He's an older player. He's one of Kevin Durant's favorite players of all time. He's known as the Iceman. [00:22:03] Speaker A: The Iceman. [00:22:04] Speaker B: The Iceman. Number 44. [00:22:10] Speaker A: Man, I don't know why I want to say Sean Camp. That's not the Iceman. Who said one of his favorite players. What, James Worthy? [00:22:18] Speaker B: No. He played for the Spurs. I'll give you that. [00:22:20] Speaker A: Became James. First of all. I know what I'm talking about. That's big game James. My bad. As a Spurs. [00:22:27] Speaker B: Yep. [00:22:27] Speaker A: The Iceman. Not Tim Duncan. [00:22:31] Speaker B: Nope. He's Tony Parker. [00:22:34] Speaker A: Kawhi Leonard. [00:22:35] Speaker B: First name starts with a G. I don't know. [00:22:37] Speaker A: Oh, no, no, that's Mondo Ginobly. No, that's not him. [00:22:40] Speaker B: Have you heard of his name? George. George Gervin. [00:22:44] Speaker A: George Gervin. No. [00:22:46] Speaker B: Well, he's one of the all time greatest. You just got educated, Trey. I'm just saying, you gotta, you gotta. You gotta know George Gervin, because I totally do. I grew up watching him because. Yeah. Anyways, let's get. Yep, there's two more. Two more of these people. We just got on a George Kirby rant. Sorry, y'all. Sorry about that. Anyways. All right, you got two more left. One of them is known to be one of the greatest dunkers of all time. [00:23:18] Speaker A: Vince Carter. [00:23:20] Speaker B: You just got it. He led it four times. I was surprised by that. Vince Carter led to All Star voting four times. I mean, he was a fan favorite, so it makes sense. But this guy, this guy will throw you for an absolute loop. He's known to be heavily, heavily involved with Team USA and the recruiting. I don't know if you saw the videos. And then he's also known to be a big what if in the NBA, if he didn't get injured He's a small forward, possibly shooting guard. [00:23:50] Speaker A: If he didn't get injured. [00:23:51] Speaker B: If he didn't get injured. He played for a lot of team he played for, notably the Detroit Pistons back in like, the 2000s or. Well, no, he played in, like, the 90s. [00:24:05] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:24:06] Speaker B: You don't know? Nope. Grant. Grant Hill. [00:24:12] Speaker A: Oh, Grant Hill. [00:24:13] Speaker B: Grant Hill. Led it twice, dude. The fan voting twice. So I think the ones you missed were George Gervin, Grant Hill, and that's pretty much it. I think you only missed two because you only had to give you, like, a few hints, and you pretty much got all of them. Round of applause for Trey. All right, that's pretty much. That's. That's it. Trey, what do you think about seeing the results right here? What do you think about the fan votes? [00:24:40] Speaker A: Oh, I just have a question right quick. So, okay, this is about All Star Weekend, too, of course. Question about the jerseys. Jerseys. Jerseys. Jerseys, man. First of all, I think. I don't know about you, but I think my favorite jerseys of, like, all time, if I'm. If I remember this right now, I think it was the 2013 jerseys, the all Star jerseys. Remember the. The Eastern. First of all, it was still Western versus East. [00:25:09] Speaker B: Yes, Western. The good old days. [00:25:11] Speaker A: The good old days. And you remember I had that Kobe Bryant jersey. Oh, you know, the red one and the blue ones. Like, were that a little pattern on it? [00:25:18] Speaker B: Yes, I'm like, yes. [00:25:20] Speaker A: I think it was more like. No, I think it was like 2012, 2013. Yeah, I'm about to look it up and fact check. But, you know, I just missed those areas. [00:25:29] Speaker B: I feel like those were tough jersey. [00:25:31] Speaker A: And then the courts, too. Like, think about just the courts from 16 all the way back to, like, yeah, 2000. [00:25:38] Speaker B: Like, I missed the east versus West. I mean, it's. I guess they changed it up to the giraffe system. Maybe when the Western. The Western Conference started to be a little bit more All Star heavy as far as, like, you know, people, you know, more so in the West. But now it's starting to even out even more than ever. So I think. I don't know, I'd like to see them bring that back. I think it would be a good reminiscence. And not saying I don't like to draft the whole draft setup, but I mean, I do miss east versus west, you know, just classic. But I mean, as far as All Star All Star weekend goes with a dunk contest. 3. I mean, I hope it's good this year. That's all I'm going to say. I hope it's good this year, but is it going to be good this year? I'm not sure. I do like the fact that they're taking the winners of the Rising Star contest and making them play against NBA vets and putting them in a little tournament. I do like that. I do like seeing how young stars kind of stack up to big veteran talent. So we'll get to see how the young Bucks play. But overall, yes. I mean, that's pretty much. You got anything to add, Trey? I don't know if you're looking up the jerseys or. [00:26:55] Speaker A: I was looking up the jerseys. [00:26:57] Speaker B: He's looking up the jerseys, y'all. [00:27:00] Speaker A: You know what? I can't find it. But. Yeah, I can't find it anyway. [00:27:09] Speaker B: Can't find it. [00:27:11] Speaker A: Oh, you know what we should bring back, though? [00:27:14] Speaker B: What should we bring back? [00:27:19] Speaker A: The loose clothes that. The baggies. The AI. [00:27:22] Speaker B: Why'd you take such a long pause? Okay, are you talking about what? Well, Trey Burke. Trey Burke's already brought that back, you know, for the Hornets. He's basically just like the Allen Iverson of today's. Not saying talent wise. Chill. Everybody, chill right now. I'm just saying, fashion wise, he is the Allen Iverson of today's NBA. Fashion, not talent. Even though he's a good. He's a good Hooper, but he's not. Allen Iverson obviously said. I don't even have to say that. But. But. Anyways, we'll be right back after this short break. You are listening to WVFM 90.7, the Capstone's MBA student section. Me and Trey are back and we gotta give out our awards for the week. So standout team, standout player. You want me to go first, Trey, or you or however you want to do this? [00:29:06] Speaker A: I. I mean, mine's pretty quick. I mean, I just go ahead and go standout player. I got jama rant simply because of that dunk on Wimy. [00:29:15] Speaker B: I don't think he hit that game winner earlier this week, too. [00:29:17] Speaker A: Exactly, man. Thank you for reminding me about that, man. I don't care if it didn't count. For points. They both jumped. They both went full speed. They played after the whistle, through the whistle, you know, like a competitor should. That counted. That was a nice dunk. [00:29:32] Speaker B: That counts. That counts. [00:29:34] Speaker A: Yep. [00:29:35] Speaker B: Just like Anthony Edwards dunk on Gay Vincent. Remember that? Where it showed Jimmy Butler on the sidelines just going, I know y'all can't see my face, but you know what face Jimmy Butler made. But I mean, yeah, I think it counted. I mean, even if it didn't count, it counted because I saw that dunk and it was filthy. Zach Edey even dunked on Victor Webanyama. I didn't know if you saw that. Yeah, he's. He's probably number one in rookie of the year rankings right now, honestly. [00:30:01] Speaker A: But remember it in the beginning a couple shows ago, remember I said Zach Edie, and y'all was like, yeah, I don't know about Zach Edie. I told y'all he was gonna be good for the league, bro. I told you. I might not have said he would have been like, number one for rookie of the year, but I said it was possible. Matter of fact, we can verify because we can go back a couple shows like when we started back this semester. [00:30:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:30:22] Speaker A: And I was like, zach Edie, I said it, bro. [00:30:24] Speaker B: If Jared McCain isn't hurt, dude. I mean, Jared McCain's winning it this year, but he got hurt. Yeah, I guess that's just how it goes. But I wish Jerry McCain a speedy recovery. But kudos to Zach Eddy. He's proven me wrong, he proved Drew wrong, and he's proven Trey right right now. So I guess that's great. Anyways, standout team. Or I'll start with my standout player. Standout player. I got to give it to Jalen Green. I mean, I really think this goes without saying. The Rockets are on a five game win streak right now, and they're just absolutely dominating the league. I mean, he's been averaging 38 points this week. He's only played two games, but they beat both the Grizzlies and Nuggets. He's also averaging 42, 30.34 points in their performance versus the Nuggets, and then 42 in his performance versus the Grizzlies. What I was going to say, he's averaging 72% from three, and he's shooting 67% from the field. I mean, these are just. He's shooting in a high clip. He's putting up numbers. And the thing that really shows me a lot about Jalen Green's development is he was used to Putting up numbers now he's getting more and more consistent, but now it's translating into wins for the Rockets and that's what's really been big for them. I mean, sure, they got Alfred Sangoon has been amazing for them. Fred Van Fleet, they got other guys too. Tari Eason, who's been helping them out a lot. But Jalen Green has really been at that number two overall pick. He's really been the focal point of them. And now with him and Sangoon, I mean they're really just starting to play off of each other. And now he's able to put the stats, you know, on the stat sheet and now it's translating into win. So I really got to give it up to Jalen Green because he's just been absolutely balling for them. They're going to play the Kings tonight as, as of right now as we're recording. So we'll see if they make it a six game win streak. But for my standout team, I know it kind of sounded like it was the Rockets, but for this week only. Now let's keep in mind this week only because I know they're the 14th seed in the East. Give me the Toronto Raptors 20 this week beating the warriors and the Celtics. A fully healthy Celtics team, believe a fully healthy warriors team. And I mean they beat them both, snapping a five game losing streak. So coming off a five game losing streak, beating two teams like that, that's great confidence going in, going into their next games. So the Raptors, they've been playing phenomenal. I know RJ Barrett has been playing good for them. Scotty Barnes, he's doing his thing, but beating the warriors and the Celtics, now that's really something to applaud. A 14th seed in the East, I mean that's really something to applaud the Toronto Raptors for. And I don't know if you saw this quote, Trey, I know this is kind of unrelated, but did you see that quote by the Toronto Raptors head coach about Steph Curry? [00:33:34] Speaker A: No. [00:33:35] Speaker B: Basically he said when Steph Curry retires, he's going to have a party and he's going to be like really, really excited and he's going to go out and who knows what he's going to do. But he was. I don't know, he's. Because Steph Curry, every time the Raptors play him, Steph Curry is always down. Like, you know, he's always due to have a good game. I mean he really is for a lot of teams he faces. Because Steph Curry. But I just thought it was a funny quote. But anyways, did you say your standout team? [00:34:04] Speaker A: No, but I'm going to give it to the Oklahoma City Thunder. [00:34:09] Speaker B: Want so. [00:34:11] Speaker A: I mean, you know, they just been. Aren't they on the winning streak right now, if I'm not mistaken? [00:34:15] Speaker B: I believe so. I can look it up. [00:34:18] Speaker A: They just, I mean, like, they just been winning their games consistently so. And like I said, I ain't gonna lie. I'm just pulling for my boy Shay, man. Like everything positive OKC his way. But you know, pulling for Shay to get his mvp. [00:34:31] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, Shay. I mean, he really does deserve it. We've been talking about it in the first segment. I mean, the OKC Thunder, they're dominating the Cleveland Cavaliers right now. I mean, as we're speaking. What's the score? I mean, it's like 70 to like 40 something. So it's pretty unbelievable what they're doing. But right now they are on a three game win streak, about to make it probably four against the Cavs, which they did take an L against in their previous matchup with them, 129 to 122. So they're getting their get back right now. But anyways, that's the standout teams for me and Trey. Trey, I know you wanted to talk about some other things possibly. [00:35:11] Speaker A: Yeah, man. Want to give a quick shout out to my boy, Bronny James. I told y'all. Now I know for a fact I said this. I told y'all. Bronnie was going to be good. He just needed time to, you know, adjust to the game and the pace of the NBA. And even though it's not in the NBA, NBA, it's in the G League. First of all, the G League is still great competition. Like everybody in the G League. I would say, matter of fact, just because we don't watch it, I might. I'm going to say it probably might be better, at least competitive wise, because everybody in G is hungry. You know, they're trying to move up. [00:35:46] Speaker B: Oh, that's. [00:35:46] Speaker A: They all have a point to prove. And I'm not saying like just, you know, when the game is like teams, you know, are going back and forth. I'm just saying think about like. Oh, no. Anyway, I kind of went off topic. [00:35:59] Speaker B: I get what you're saying. It's competitive. You're saying it's more competitive. Yeah, that's interesting. That's an interesting point to make. But yeah, I get what you're saying. They are hungry. They're trying to get A roster spot. I'm sure all of them are. And then Bronny James, he's doing. I mean, he really has been balling out. And you. Even for the haters out there, I don't know if some haters are listening to this, some Bronny haters. You can't deny what you see. I mean, and he's starting to hit threes now. I mean, obviously that's not the majority of his shots, but he's getting to the rim at will, he's making good passes, he's starting to get to the mid range. But once he's able to really hit his open threes, just his open threes, not even create them, that's one thing. But once he's able to really space the four, that's when he's going to be really valuable for teams, whether it's the Lakers or someone else. Because defensively, he's already great. I know, that's. Whenever I was praising Bronny James coming out of college, I was saying the one thing he's really good at, he's got great athletic ability. And because of that, that really helps him on the defensive side of the ball. He's able to move his feet, he's able to stay with the whatever ball handler he's guarding. And for that reason, I've, you know, somewhat vouched for Bronny James. But now, I mean, there's no denying his skill level. And if he's able to translate that into, you know, into the actual NBA, sky's the limit for him. [00:37:25] Speaker A: Oh, one more shout out to my boy, Jerry. Vando Vanderbilt's finally finna come back. It's been reported that he's been moved to the G League temporarily just to get, you know, back acclimated to, you know, the pace. But he's coming back to the Lakers, man. Y'all know I've been pulling for him for a while now, so I'm excited to see what he does when he comes back. [00:37:46] Speaker B: Yep. Trey's always been the big Jared Vanderbilt supporter. I mean, I don't blame him. He's just. He's a great piece for the Lakers. Now moving. Moving to the Mavericks. I know I'm not trying to steal your spotlight for the Lakers, but honestly, I'm not really stealing anything because we. We kind of stink right now. I mean, we're still the fifth seed. We're still the fifth seed right now, but I mean, our skit as far as wins, we're not doing very well. We're on a three Game losing streak. Back to back losses against the Nuggets, and we took an L versus the Pelicans. Controversial L2. They looked over the review as far as the Trey Murphy block to seal the game, and they said it was a goaltend. So. But I mean, you can't let it come down to that at the end of the day. I mean, once when you let a game come down to a final decision like that, I mean, every good team knows that you. You can't let that happen. Now, Daniel Gafford, he has been playing amazing for us. I don't know if you saw that lob dunk from Najee Marshall to Daniel Gafford, and he pulled it all the way back and just slammed it, but I mean, he had 27 that night versus the New Orleans Pelicans. And he's just been amazing for us. Jaden Hardy has just been awesome for us. He's been shooting a high clip, especially from three point range. I think he's shooting in around 41% from three. I mean, that's just been amazing for us. PJ's been good. The only thing that's been an issue is injuries to our stars. Kyrie has been out. He just came back from his. I think it was a ruptured disc. He came back from that and now he was out versus the Pelicans. And then Zion was out versus the Pelicans too, but we still took the L to them, so. And even when Kyrie was healthy in our second matchup versus the Nuggets, we still lost by a wide margin, 118 to 99. I was watching that game live and it was just the Jamal Murray, I mean, Thanksgiving feast. Dude, I know we just passed Thanksgiving. I know it's been. But, I mean, there's no other way. We've been past Thanksgiving, but it was just like. There's nothing. He was carving the turkey out there, dude. I mean, it was. We were the turkey and he was just carving and. And he was just eating, dude. I mean, he had, I believe, 45 points that game. And if you're a Nuggets fan, you love to see that. Especially with his struggles in the Olympics and leading up to this season. He's starting to find a stride now. And if Jamal Murray can be consistent like that and be lethal like that, then this Nuggets team, they might be coming back. But overall, Trey, I know we're pretty much wrapped up with the episode. Good episode. First episode. Back in the new semester. What do you got to say to. [00:40:43] Speaker A: The peoples everybody who's listening. Appreciate y'all tune in next week. We'll be back with another fire show episode. [00:40:53] Speaker B: Absolutely. [00:40:54] Speaker A: And, everybody, y'all have a good night. Be safe out there. What do you got to say, Zach? [00:40:59] Speaker B: Yep, same thing. Along with what Trey's saying. Be safe. Thank y'all for listening and tuning in. And, yeah, that's pretty much a wrap Skis. Thank y'all for listening to WVFM 90.7, the Capstone's MBA student section. It's been Zach and Trey, and we're out. Peace. [00:41:34] Speaker A: Wvuafm, Tuscaloosa.
